Time to start creating my own myth.
Daniel Dumile—also known as MF DOOM—has released albums under many different names. You’ll find records where he’s known as Zev Love X, King Geedorah/Ghidra, Viktor Vaughn, Metal Fingers, King Dumile, or just plain old DOOM.
What you won’t find is a record where he goes by his birth name, Daniel Dumile.
All of those identities create the character of MF DOOM—a mysterious smooth-talker, the “super-villain who loves children; one who is well skilled in destruction as well as building.” It’s why DOOM and his many characters have a cult following. Without all of those identities and records to back them up, DOOM would just be another rapper with cool beats. Instead, by telling a story through his characters, he has created a canon of music that keeps fans excited for what he might put forth next. All done while behind a mask, letting his creation speak for him.
